Imagine This

Take a moment and imagine yourself as a ten-year-old on a beautiful Saturday morning. As you ponder on what you should do, you are dispirited by the lack of options. You can’t play in the neighborhood park because that’s where drugs are being sold, you can’t take your bike around the neighborhood because there have been recent shootings, you can’t peacefully stay at home because your one parent is coming down off a binge. You don’t wish it was a school day because the pressure of a gladiator environment is choking you. Heart broken and lost in a frightening world, you see a flyer on a splintered telephone pole and it persuades you to register for free to a neighborhood sports team. Your excitement rises when you read along and see “Free Registration, Free Equipment, Free Traveling and Free Uniforms”. You register, and on the first day of practice you are relieved to discover you are being instructed by an adult who has been trained to coach you with positive and empowering techniques. You are surrounded by children who had grown up in the same neighborhood you have and share the same exact experiences and feeling as you. You take a deep breathe and exhale your anxiety and think to yourself that I finally have a place to rest. Thank God for Sport4Life!
